Let me throw this out there.
1) Next year there is no Salary Cap
2) LT has said that as far as he's concerned he has played his last game for the Chargers
3) LT wants to get a ring
4) LT decides to re-unite with Brees and gives the Saints the one thing they really don't have on offense ... a viable rushing threat ( yeah, I know, " but LT is washed up " ... but how would he do on a team where the passing threat is so great that the rushing attack gets less attention by defenses ? At the least, it would make opposing defenses have to consider the Saints rushing game more which has to open up the D for the passing attack more )
5) The Saints win another Superbowl in 2010
Like I said ... I'm just sayin'

I'm all for conjecture, but I don't see a fit here - stats don't show it, but Pierre Thomas was working his @ss off last night, and his youth and potential aren't likely to be pushed aside - the Saints offense is built around a lot of above average guys that aren't superstars playing their roles efficiently - Thomas, Bush, Henderson, Meachem - even Mike Bell a bit, though you couldn't see that last night.
Bringing LT in on the tail end would put a veteran superstar in an offense that really doesn't have a use for him, and would instead force NO to reinvent the scheme to work him in - I don't see that happening, as the Saints aren't in dire need of a guy like him at the moment. I'd lean more towards LT in an Eagles uniform, to supplant Westbrook should he finally be done (which he should be), and distract a little while McCoy is getting his wheels under him. The Eagles are a similar upper-end team, but one that still needs a couple of pieces, and a guy with LT's work ethic could help them earlier in the year - I could also see a fit with the Steelers, who could use a compliment to Mendenhall, and are also still fairly high caliber. I just don't see the need or want on New Orleans' side that would make this a smart move to repeat.

If LT wants a huge contract...he aint gonan get it from the Saints. I havnt looked at their roster, but Super Bowl teams tend to have a hard time holding onto talent, let alone acquiring expensive new talent. Plus, between Thomas, Bush, and that other dude, I think theyre fine.

Why would the Eagles want to drop one aging RB jus to pick up another. The Eagles are in a youth movement right now. They just signed Martell Mallett, the CFL rookie of the year, and they have McCoy and Buckley. LT isn't coming to Philly, IMHO.

Like, say, the Chargers?
I just have 3 responses for the various points brought up in this thread:
1) LT isn't leaving to find more money. He's set on money. He wants a ring.
2) He doesn't make sense on the Saints because he would play the Pierre Thomas role, and they are only paying Pierre about $300,000 per year, which is essentially zero in NFL terms. In fact, I think the far more likely Charger RB to go there would be Sproles... it makes a LOT more sense for the Saints to cut Bush and his $10M/year contract and pick up Sproles at say $4M.
3) LT is in a lose-lose situation. I don't quite understand why he is asking the Chargers to cut him rather than offering to restructure his contract down to market value. He's going to take a huge pay cut wherever he goes, and he has just as good a chance to win a ring with the Bolts as any other team. He needs a new agent frankly.
As a Chargers fan, I'd rather cut LT than pay him $7M per year for a measly 2 ypc average... there are much more important players on this team that need to be re-signed. On the other hand, I have no problem paying him $2-3M per year to be a short yardage back, which is essentially what he'll be anywhere else if he leaves.

Based upon recent history...LT will be released...LT will be a Patriot.
Welcome to the dark side LT.

Honestly, the Chargers are like the Saints of football. Every offseason theyre touted as one of the best teams, and every year they disappoint. I think the train sailed away on the Bolts when they hired a Turner.

They are one of the best teams, they have been to the Divisional Round or better for 5 years straight, which is the longest current streak in the league. Obviously they are not the best until they actually win one, but you have to like their chances better than oh at least 24 other teams.

LT is going to be a back up somewhere, and it ain't gonna be in New Orleans. He's going to the team that he once said had no class. New England. Of course, he will say that he loves the opportunity, and the he can't wait to play for such a classy organization as New England. And everyone knows that he's a class act, so if he says they're classy, then New England in Classy.
Honestly I don't know where he would go. Maybe Seattle? Cleveland? Houston? There are teams that would want him, but it's not going to be New Orleans.

Don't forget that, in addition to no Salary Cap, next year there will be no Salary Floor. Which means that most teams will likely try to add talent at bargain basement prices. And given the possibility of a work stoppage for the 2011 season, anyone looking for a long-term contract will probably be S.O.L.

he already restructured his contract last season. teams are just fine underpaying players so there is nothing wrong with over payed players refusing to restructure for less money, after all the franchise was willing to sign him to that back loaded contract knowing how old he would be during these more expensive years.
is there a spot for him on any of the legitimate contenders? the patriots are about the only team i can think of but that's just because they recycle players every year. wouldn't that be fun to see LT in a patriots uniform? if he's smart he'll ask for permission to have his agent shop around and if he can't find a team that he likes then he can re-do his contract at a reduced rate. i doubt the chargers would allow that but he's a legend there so maybe they'll allow it.
