To begin,I will admit that I am a huge Favre fan. While listening to your latest podcast I had a flashback to a recent argument I had with a friend.
He, like you, wanted to hold Favre' interception statistics against all of the rest of the records he owns to say he is not one of the top 10 QBs all time. Granted the total number of Interceptions is the highest all time, but when you compare him vs the rest of your all time QBs he ranks in the middle of the pack.
Sorry about the formatting for the charts below...
Career
Int Att %
Brady 99 4218 2.35%
Montana 139 5391 2.58%
Manning 181 6531 2.77%
Aikman 141 4715 2.99%
Marino 252 8358 3.02%
Elway 226 7250 3.12%
Favre 317 9811 3.23%
Tarkenton 266 6467 4.11%
Fouts 242 5604 4.32%
Unitas 253 5186 4.88%
Bradshaw 210 3901 5.38%
His numbers are much closer to the top of the pack than the bottom. And remember that for 16 years in Green Bay, if they were in 3rd and Long and if just out of field goal range Favre was throwing for the big one thinking its just as good as a Punt on 4th down. It would be interesting to see how many situational INTs he had.
But, enough of opinion lets get back to facts. If you look at the best year for Interceptions for each of these TOP 10 QBs who do you think has the best year of them all? Thats right.....
Career Best Year

Favre 317 9811 3.23% 7 531 1.32%

...Its Brett Favre, Imagine that!!! At 40 years of age he adapts his game and has the Best Year ever among this group of HOF players. Could the "Gunslinger" have always been a "Sharpshooter"
So Kevin, with all that in mind, can you hold Favre's interceptions against him?
Oh yeah, by the way, if your looking for winners...look at this for %of years with a winning record...

Again, does Favre interception total really look that bad?

Sounds to me like youre trying to say Brett Farve, the all-time interception leader in the NFL, doesnt throw a lot of picks.
Your "facts" just got xlledx'ed, foo!

I still give it to Unitas or Sammy Baugh. Numbers don't speak the same when you're talking about them. No wimp rules about touching the head or leg, or even rouging the qb. They put up numbers in their era which were astounding, and totally revolutionized that position. In a game where it was run 80% of the time, they made defenses respect the pass, on mud fields and a ball that was bigger and slicker than it is today. Not to mention they called their plays, they were the offensive coordinator of the team.
Give me those guys any day.
As for the guys post 80s. I would take Peyton or Montana to lead my team over any of the other guys.

Dude...I WAS pushing for Favre. Lyle wanted Brady. Did you hear the show?

I was gonna say...Kev was all for Favre. Lyle was the one being gay. I mean, this should be a given by now, I thought we were at a point where it's just expected from Lyle.

My bad for mixing up who said what...you should go to a video podcast...easier to remember who is who. Nonetheless, can we straighten Lyle out on this one? I will post this in lyles corner...

For the future, I'm the one with a deep, manly voice. Lyle's the one with the nasally voice.

Can we at least keep this discussion to top 10 QBs of the past 30 years. You can't really judge a player you haven't seen play and I'm guessing most dudes on this site never saw Sammy Baugh or Unitas play. I'm 42 and I can barely remember anyone before the Bradshaw/Staubach duels. My sense is that there aren't many older than me here (except Kevin of course).

Well, you can pretty much say Super Bowl Era, and Pre-Super Bowl Era...
