To begin,I will admit that I am a huge Favre fan. While listening to your latest podcast I had a flashback to a recent argument I had with a friend.
He, like you, wanted to hold Favre' interception statistics against all of the rest of the records he owns to say he is not one of the top 10 QBs all time. Granted the total number of Interceptions is the highest all time, but when you compare him vs the rest of your all time QBs he ranks in the middle of the pack.
Sorry about the formatting for the charts below...
Career
Int Att %
Brady 99 4218 2.35%
Montana 139 5391 2.58%
Manning 181 6531 2.77%
Aikman 141 4715 2.99%
Marino 252 8358 3.02%
Elway 226 7250 3.12%
Favre 317 9811 3.23%
Tarkenton 266 6467 4.11%
Fouts 242 5604 4.32%
Unitas 253 5186 4.88%
Bradshaw 210 3901 5.38%
His numbers are much closer to the top of the pack than the bottom. And remember that for 16 years in Green Bay, if they were in 3rd and Long and if just out of field goal range Favre was throwing for the big one thinking its just as good as a Punt on 4th down. It would be interesting to see how many situational INTs he had.
But, enough of opinion lets get back to facts. If you look at the best year for Interceptions for each of these TOP 10 QBs who do you think has the best year of them all? Thats right.....
Career Best Year
Int Att % Int Att %
Favre 317 9811 3.23% 7 531 1.32%
Brady 99 4218 2.35% 8 578 1.38%

Fouts 242 5604 4.32% 17 609 2.79%
Bradshaw 210 3901 5.38% 9 286 3.15%
...Its Brett Favre, Imagine that!!! At 40 years of age he adapts his game and has the Best Year ever among this group of HOF players. Could the "Gunslinger" have always been a "Sharpshooter"
So Lyle, with all that in mind, can you hold Favre's interceptions against him?
Oh yeah, by the way, if your looking for winners...look at this for %of years with a winning record...
Winning Season Percentage over Career (Big Names 10+ years)
w l e Percentage
FAVRE 15 1 2 88.89%
Manning 9 2 0 81.82%
Marino 12 1 4 82.35%
Bradshaw 11 2 1 82.14%
Unitas 14 3 1 80.56%
Montana 11 3 0 78.57%

Aikman 7 4 1 62.50%
Tarkenton 8 6 4 55.56%

Again, does Favre interception total really look that bad?

Favre will finish this year in the top 5. Anyone care to put a wager on it?

The Cold Hard Football Facts, Lyle's new favorite source for information that supports Lyle, says you can take your Brett Favre and shove him up your asomugha.
