I don't see anything particularly controversial in the rankings! About the same as mine.

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

Kevin,
Good stuff.  Thanks for the pick on the mag, I will be on vacation next week and will be visiting my local bookstore beforehand.

Thanks for the early rankings too.  Personally, I would move B. Wells up and drop Mendenhall down some - but I like em.

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

NFL.com is my bathroom read, and Lindy's is my poolside read.  Until Kevin and Lyle put out a magazine, these will have to do.

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

The first commentary post of the season... must be Crunch Time!

I picked up the new FF Index mag today on the way home from work, but haven't cracked it open yet. The only other one I want to check out is the new one from ProFootballTalk.com when I come across it.

Awesome article and further proof of why you guys are better then the rest.  Your in midseason form Kevin... (cue the Rocky theme music) Its must be Crunch Time as db said !   With Kim Kardassian moving over to see Miles Austin, will there be a chance of seeing Bush Split Wide once again?

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

I think that the fantasy football magazines are one of the best parts of fantasy football. Sure they are outdated by your draft; but, they are great to take to the beach and start getting fired up for football season. I always buy several of them and enjoy most of them, although, this years batch does not seem very good at all from a writing standpoint. I did like the Gil Brandt article in NFL.com were he talked about the umpire moving to the backfield this year and he will no longer be in the center of the field allowing the Wes Welker pick play that NE runs on every third and short. That could really hurt the possession receivers that use that play to get open on a frequent basis. Remember too that you do not have to purchase many of the magazines as the fantasy football sites have downloadable pdf versions that are free.

Any chance of posting a link to one or two of these?  I've been nosing around and having no luck, but a pdf or two would make some great reading material if I could email it to myself at work .....

These are not PDFsm, but I ran into the links looking for the PDFs. Seems like Yahoo and CBS both have PDFs and I did find the CBS PDF. Football Guys had a PDF last year; but, I have not seen it yet. As I find them I will post to this thread.

Also had the wife look for Lindy's at Walmart and they didn't have it.  Out of the two she said were there I picked the Sports Illustrated one.   Stayed up and read the whole thing last night and have to say it was rather good for providing details on many players.  So much so it would give someone a good feel for players value if they had been oblivious to the goings on and the draft this offseason.

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

Sporting News is the worst! If anyone is thinking about buying their mag then you should just walk over to your garbage can and throw $8 in and walk away.
Last year their columns for stat projections were off by an entire column. forget the fact that their projections are garbage, they should at LEAST be able to get their garbage lined up in straight lines!

I totally agree, I picked up one for my 4th of July vacation read... It is total garbage, there advice stated, based on their mock draft that "8 of the last 12 picks were kickers, that's how it should be."

I read this crap and was like, great advise, that is all you have to offer, plus in my opinion all 12 last picks should be kickers.

Their expert mocks look really easy.  Id love to be in a league where three people take QBs in the 1st round, and two other guys take Andre and Randy Moss.  "Ill draft Steve Jackson with my 2nd pick now..."-me

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

Thanks Kevin for the article.
Ironically, my favorite preseason read for the past several years has been Lindy's as well...yet not the Fantasy Football mag but the regular NFL Football mag.  They break down teams by position and especially coaching.  I get all kinds of info about coaching changes, coaching philosophy and line play.  It goes a long way to helping me map out my strategy for the coming year and as an added bonus I get very little in the way of someone's opinion on who to draft first.  I a nice bonus beyond the cheerleader in bathing suits picks is the college prospects section.

Then I picked up The Fantasy Index, and all was right with the world.  A mag that got the RB thing right, and put AD at #1.  Nice.

Re: Article: The Damn Mags and Pre-Season Rankings

I got the Lindy's magazine today and I love how the stats are put in a neat and understandable manner. The information is organized by people that actually understand how I think (just my personal opinion)

I love too how they don't throw projections and rankings in your face. They give you the stats, they draw their own conclusions and kind of expect you to as well.

I will always love The Fantasy Index, but I think Lindy's is my new fave.

Is that an SI magazine or somewhere on the web site?  Either way, it completely deflates any credibility they may have had for fantasy football.

Where do they have DWill Ranked?  Am I the only one who thinks Carolina will run DWill to the ground since this is his last year on his contract...which may equal huge numbers or injury?
