On sheer value, I think Witten is more valuable. My likely keepers for this season are:
Aaron Rodgers, Chris Johnson, MJD, Jamaal Charles, Vincent Jackson, Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley and either Witten OR Owen Daniels. But if I flex Charles, I can only use one TE.
Given that I'm likely without VJax for, well, who knows how long -- should I take this? Or try for better? His other keepable WRs are Boldin, Maclin and Carolina Steve Smith.

With Owen Daniels not finishing last season, I don't know that I would go all in with him to start the year off at TE - nor for that matter would I neccessarily slot him ahead of Witten, despite his good year pre-injury and Witten's drop off the face of the earth during a similar time period.
If I'm understanding this right, you have 9 keepers? You've listed 8, but then imply that you'd keep Ward as well. Out of the 4 receivers you listed on the other guy's team, I'd rather have any of the other three before Ward - I doubt he'd move Boldin, Maclin has good upside, and I like Steve Smith a lot, even with the pre-preseason 'hurt playing grab-ass' injury. Ward is consistent, and the best option in Pitt, but I personally think you're losing value in a Witten for Ward deal, and I'd rather go for Smith, who I think you can get, and is the more explosive player.

My bad -- should have been clearer. The keepers are if there is no trade. We can keep 6, plus two guys with 2 yrs experience or less (CJ and Charles). If I made the deal, I'd go with AR, CJ, MJD, JC, VJ, GJ, JF and Ward.

My hope in having three TEs the year the league is finally switching to mandatory TE was to have some trade depth. And I love Finley's upside in that offense, so I figured Witten would be my best bet in a trade as for as potential return.
WRs on other teams that could use TE help:
Team 1 - White, Sims-Walker, Crabtree, Cotchery, Berrian (no TE on roster)
Team 2 - Colston, Harvin, Welker, OchoCinco, Meachem, Britt, Royal (no TE)
Team 3 - the team I mentioned above also has Hakeem Nicks and no TE
Team 4 - Fitzgerald, Moss, NYG Smith (but he has Olsen at TE and may be happy with that)
Team 5 - DJax, Rice, Holmes, Wallace, Garcon, Knox, Avery (has Carlson at TE)
Worth mentioning is that I don't have a first round pick, so I will likely miss out on the hot rookie receivers (especially valuable since we get to keep 2 guys with less than 2 years of experience).
Assuming I WANT to move Witten, where do you see the best deal for me to shoot for? Should I offer him for a draft pick? Is he worth a first rounder since that roughly equates to the 7th round after keepers?

I would want more for Witten. I agree that you are set at the position, but Witten should be the best of the three.
I don't know that I would trade a Top 5 TE for a Top 25 WR.

Team 2 has offered Meachem. I think he's planning on keeping all his WRs other than Britt.

Would Nicks be a better target than Ward given our ability to keep 2 guys with 2 years experience or less? That makes him an "extra" keeper for two more years, which would be nice as long as the production is reasonable.

I like Nicks over Ward, especially since Big Ben will miss 4-6 games, but I still don't like giving up Witten.

Nicks for Witten was rejected, but the counter of ANY TE (including Daniels) for Ward was made. Should I take that and stop? Keep looking? Do that one and continue shopping the other two for whatever they will bring?

Keep looking. I like each of those TEs more than Hines Ward, especially with an opening third of the season with Leftwich heaving balls in his general direction.
