Is the New OC of the 9ers
This should be interesting.
I see some websites saying its not a good fit.... I disagree. He has already said he plans on building the offense around Gore.... that right there is a marked improvement over 2007. Gore is a good pass catcher, w/ the right QB and some WR talent; I think things are looking up for S.F. in the next year or two.
Now if only the 49ers could lure Millen away!
I think Martz will do a fine job in San Fran. They just have to see what kind of QB they really have and he will work it out.
I like the move because I think he was the best guy out there. ...definately an upgrade over Hostler! I'm also encouraged that the first player issue he addressed was that Gore will be the cornerstone of the offense. Also, it takes a smart QB to run a Martz offense. Both Smith & Hill are that if nothing else.
On the downside, the WR situation is a trainwreck. I'm not sure any of the guys we have fit the Martz passing style; they need to be excellent route-runners and have good hands. On top of that the fact that Martz's goal is to be a head coach again only means when the offense does become successful, he'll bolt just like Norv.
The jury's still out, but I gotta say it's looking like the start of another good offseason for the 9ers.
I agree we need some help at WR. I think Battle has shown signs of being a guy that can work in a Martz offense. I think what he needs to do is use Davis more than they use him now. Davis has the ability to be used like a Gates or Gonzalez. I believe it will come down to the QB situation. It's going to be interesting to see how the Hill Smith situation pans out.
Yeah I'm up and down on this one.
Because he said Gore will be the corner stone, but tightends have not been incorporated in his O really ever.
But Since there is a lack of WR he could be REALLY big.
So I'm praying that this O could go somewhere.
Well even if we lose at least the O wont be boring.
Im excited to see Alex Smith in this offence

Alex Smith is a better fit in the spread offence

you think martz will apply a spread offense?
I was just about to officially label Alex Smith a flop. I'm changing my stance now.
Its new he deserves another chance with a new o-cordinator
If they can go 8-8 and alex smith scores 20+ tds then he can stay around.
Besides Vince young threw 19 Ints and only about 13 tds but no one ever rags on him.
As long as martz doesn't leave right away we have a chance at a decent O.
Martz will be the only reason Nolan stays around.
And if Nolan stays out of the offensive play calling and manages the D along with Manusky and Singletary the 9ers could do something.
If Nolan ever was fired I wouldn't mind seeing Singletary captain our ship.
I think the best news is at the press confrence, Matz said Gore would be the center piece of the offence, i hope he can be the next Marshal Faulk
Yeah I think it's a good fit too, will at least bring some more creativity and offensive versatility.
